Award Ceremony of the Jesenko Awards at the Biotechnical Faculty 2026
On Friday, 13 March 2026, the ceremonial presentation of the Jesenko Awards of the Biotechnical Faculty took place in the Assembly Hall of the University of Ljubljana. A faculty award was also presented to Prof. Dr Nives Ogrinc for her exceptional contribution to the development of research and educational cooperation between the Jožef Stefan Institute and the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana.

Participation in the ETP Food for Life Events in Brussels
On 26–27 February 2026, the European Technology Platform Food for Life (ETP F4Life) community met in Brussels to discuss the Implementation Action Plan (IAP) – 2025 Update, which outlines key research and innovation actions supporting the transformation of Europe’s food system. Prof. Dr. Nives Ogrinc, a member of the FLEN network, contributed to the preparation of the Implementation Action Plan and attended the events in Brussels.

METROFOOD Slovenia
METROFOOD-SI is a Slovenian node of METROFOOD-RI coordinated by Jožef Stefan Institute.
The Slovenian node is composed of seven partners, e.g. Jožef Stefan Institute, Nacional Institute of Biology, Science and Research Centre Koper, University of Ljubljana (Biotechnical Faculty, Veterinary Faculty), Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, the National Laboratory of Health, Environment and Food.
METROFOOD-SI’s mission is to provide a comprehensive and sustainable infrastructure for food quality, safety and traceability including analysis, development of innovative solutions, data management and training services.

METROFOOD Europe
METROFOOD-RI “Infrastructure for promoting Metrology in Food and Nutrition” is a new EU Research Infrastructure of global interest included in ESFRI Roadmap (Domain “Health and Food”) in 2018.
Its general objective is to enhance scientific cooperation and encourage interaction between the various stakeholders, as well as the creation of a common and shared base of data, information and knowledge.
It is characterized by several activities: collection, dissemination and sharing information on principles, terminology, tools and metrological needs in food and nutrition; harmonization and integration of food composition databases; development of new standardized tools for food quality, safety and authenticity.
The project consists of 48 partners from 18 countries.
Main goals
To enhance quality and reliability of measurement results
To make available and share data, information and metrological tools
To enhance scientific excellence in the field of food quality & safety
To strengthen scientific knowledge, promoting scientific cooperration and integration
Research activities cover the whole food chain and related services, from agrifood primary production up to final consumption, in order to support sustainability of food production and consumption, improve food quality and safety, achieve food traceability and authenticity demonstration, and optimise all the steps from farm to fork with a holistic approach.
